The lodge has space for up
to sixteen guests, furthermore there is a cabin for two more guests. But
usually there are no more than eight guests at a time.
Journey
Most guests arrive by plane
at the Rapid City Airport, South Dakota. We offer free airport transfers
on Wednesdays and Saturdays with a minimum stay of 7 days.
A rental car is not needed.
Season
The ranch work is seasonal.
Guests are invited to participate from April to October.
In April the calves
are born, in
May/June they are branded.
July and August
are lazy month - here and there an escaped steer is to round up, a small
cattle drive to another pasture occurs, a lost horse has to be found. The
spare time is used for long and interesting horseback rides.
A lot of work starts in
September.
Steers have to be caught, this is the big "round up" which lasts until
October.
In January is Snow
Mobiling time. Skiing and riding in the snow - a very special winter vacation.
A day without cowboys
and cattle
There are no planned dates
for day tours but if anybody is in the mood for some sight seeing we will
go!
The first National Monument
"Devils Tower" is nearby, the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore
are one and a half hour away. Furthermore there are horse shows, rodeos
and horse auctions in the neighbor towns. |

Fe or any other place in the west with up to four other guests of the Lake
Ranch. |
Cowboy life and Indian
culture
It is possible to combine
the ranch vacation with one week in the Pine Ridge Reservation with the
